The deep green leaves of the Alocasia lauterbachiana are long and narrow with the coolest wavy textured edges. As their nickname suggests, they feature purple-colored undersides, creating an interesting combination of color, shape, and leaf texture that make this Alocasia variety really stand out.

If you’re looking for an eye catching Alocasia, an addition to your jungle or a stand out feature plant with easy care, the Alocasia Lauterbachiana may be what you need.

Light: The Purple Sword will thrive in indirect bright light exposure ideally near an east or north-facing window. A brighter exposure can also work, but make sure your windows have curtains to filter the light. Strong, direct sunlight will ultimately burn the leaves especially during the hotter periods of the day. A bit of early morning sun will not harm the plant. Rotate your plant periodically, to avoid it stretching towards the light and growing unevenly.

Water:  Alocasia love to stay consistently moist but without having soggy roots. They hate wet feet! To strike the perfect balance for this and most tropical plants water when the first 2-3 inches of soil are dry and allow the plant to drain thoroughly, making sure not to leave any water sitting in the drip tray.

Humidity: Your laubachiana is happiest with high humidity. If humidity is low in your space or you notice dry crispy edges on your leaves consider a humidifier or a pebble tray to raise the humidity around your plant.
